CLOSING HYMN     “Watchman, Tell Us of the Night”          Bulletin

Opening Hymn: “Hail, O Blessed Mary”

PNCC Hymnal #19

Hail, O Blessed Mary, heaven’s beauteous lily

For our God has favored you, Mother of all mercy,

Through the birth of your dear Son, who would bring redemption.

Mary, you were favored, graced beyond the angels,

Maid above all maidens, holiest of women,

Pray for us, O Blessed one, Mother of God’s own true Son.

Mother you were chosen, blest among all women,

By the God of heaven, author of salvation,

Hope of all who on you call, pray O Mother for us all.

Hymn:  O Come O Come Emmanuel”

PNCC Hymnal 32:  verses 1 & 7

O Come O Come Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel

That mourns in lonely exile here, until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee O Israel.

O Come Desire of nations, bind all peoples in one heart and mind;

Bid envy, strife and envy cease; fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.  Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee O Israel.

Closing Hymn:  Watchman , Tell Us of the Night ”

PNCC Hymnal #31

Watchman tell us of the night, what the signs of promise are

Trav’ler o’er yon mountains heights, see that glory beaming star,

Watchman doth its beauteous ray, aught of joy of hope foretell?

Trav’lers, yes, it brings the day, promised day of Israel.

Watchman tell us of the night, higher yet that star ascends

Trav’ler blessedness and light, peace and truth its courses portends

Watchman will its beam alone gild the spot that gave them birth?

Trav’ler, ages are its own, see it bursts o’er all the earth.   Amen

THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT: LOVE

1st Child - Last Sunday we lit the candle of joy.  We light it and the candles of hope and peace again as we remember that Christ will come again and bring us everlasting peace and joy.

(a child lights the candles of hope, peace, and joy)

2nd Child - The fourth candle of Advent is the Candle of Love. Its light is meant to remind us of the love that God has for us.

1st Child - Jesus shows us God's perfect love.  He is God's love in human form.  The bible says that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

2nd Child - Love is patient, love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful or conceited, rude or selfish. Love is not quick to take offense, it keeps no records of wrongs, it does not gloat over other people's troubles, but rejoices in the right, the good, and the true.  There is nothing that love cannot face; there is no limit to its faith, to its hope, to its endurance. Love never ends.

All the Children - We light this candle today to remind us of how God's perfect love is found in Jesus

Light the Fourth Candle

Congregation: Loving God, we thank you for your gift of love - shown to us perfectly in Jesus Christ our Lord.  Help us prepare our hearts to receive Him. Bless our worship. Help us to hear and do your word.  We ask it in the name of the one born in Bethlehem.  Amen

                                       Fourth Sunday in Advent

2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a-16

Responsorial:  Psalm 89

Romans 16: 25-27

Luke 1:26-38

KEY VERSE: "Be it done to me according to Your word!”

Luke 1:38

READINGS:  David wishes to build a temple to house the tables of the Law, but God speaks to him, promising to exalt and secure the house of David forever.  In our second reading, we learn that God has revealed His plan of salvation through the coming of His Son, Jesus Christ.  It is made known to all people that they may believe and obey.  Our Gospel affirms that the House of David will be forever and that salvation will be secured through the announcement that Mary, a virgin will conceive through the Holy Spirit and will give birth to a son, Emmanuel, God is with us.

REFLECTING: In the second reading, Paul refers to the good news of Jesus as a mystery once hidden and now manifest. God is not to be construed as one who makes life difficult by hiding, but as one who is discovered in the quiet and clear recesses of the heart. We would do well this last week of Advent to carve out time for the kind of silence that allows the heart to be open and expectant. Think about how Mary can be a true example for you of one who was open to God's presence right there in a small, seemingly insignificant place?

PRAYING: Lord Jesus, I know that you are coming.  Help me to prepare myself to receive You as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords during this Advent Season.  Time is running short; help me to use this time to welcome You, my Lord and God.
